Pittsburgh Museum of Steel
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Program: Gallery Spaces, Auditorium, Public Gathering
The goal of the steel museum was to honor both the history of steel and the history of the city of Pittsburgh. The building opens up at the end to provide an amazing view of the historic Carrie Furnace, which serves as a constant reminder of steel's hey day. The use of trusses as the main structural support lends credence to the historical uses of steel, while the grand cantilever represents the endless possibilities for the future of steel.
